“The Goddess” Marcia
Marcia Raymond aka “The Goddess” Marcia, a Jamaican native who now resides in the United State of America in the State of Connecticut and has made it her mission to keep the Jamaican population in tune with their culture while being miles away from home. Marcia noticed that while Hartford, CT was very active in the Jamaican Culture, in the South Eastern region of the Connecticut very little was being done culturally, so that prompted her to the possibility of doing the same here. To achieve this, she organized and plan a celebration of Jamaican Independence for the Greater New Haven County, which marks the day Jamaica received its independent from Great Britain; it is a widely celebrated event at home and abroad. Jamaicans come together and partake in feasting on traditional foods like Jerk Chicken and Curry Goat; dancing to reggae/dancehall, Soca/Calypso Music; Raffle prizes and face painting, balloon artistry and Bounce House for the kids is some of the day’s activities. In 2016, the expectation is to have a larger crowd with people coming from all over the state of Connecticut and New York State respectively; so come prepared in your Black, Green and Gold and celebrate with us!
As the host and event planner for the Jamaican Independance Celebration (JIC) it was only natural that the evolution of her repertoire extended to that of a Radio DJ/Personality since music is a huge part of the Island culture. The Goddess is still in her infancy as a DJ and is looking forward to where it may lead in the future.
As a Graduate Student studying business, "the Goddess" decided to delve in another of her interest and started creating T-Shirt Slogans. The slogans based on things and Ideas that are of interest to her. These "talk Tees" touch on subjects of varying importance, some are funny, educational, cultural, controversional, etc. The message is to promote thought or conversation when worn by the individual or by someone looking at it with hopes to make you go hmmm… click the link UNDER Merchandise to check it out.
